DOUBLE WALL DAY TANKS A totally enclosed outer shell may be added resulting in a double wall construction. Both the inner and the outer tanks are vented separately and each are pressure tested.
When enclosing a U/L Listed day tank, an additional emergency vent is added to the double wall containment area the same size as the inner tank. (The U/L Listing is “Secondary Containment Aboveground Tank for Flammable Liquids”, File MH12807.)
All day tanks (10 gallon and more capacity), excluding Trim day tanks, have all threaded connections located on the tank top (except the tank overflow and the double wall drain and vent). The inner tank drain is located on the tank top, under the removable cover.

U/L LISTED TANKS
In addition to the Standard features shown above, all U/L Listed tanks have:
- additional internal reinforcement
- a properly sized emergency vent (see sizes at left)
- a U/L Listed label
RUPTURE BASINS
All day tanks may be set within a Rupture Basin, or Open Top Dike. Rupture basins are available with a minimum
capacity of either 150% or 200% of the inner tank (the vessel where fuel is normally stored). The inner tank is
used to determine rupture basin size.
Single wall day tanks may be set within either a 150% or a 200% rupture basin, whereas, those with double wall
construction will only fit within a 200% minimum capacity rupture basin.
Weatherproof rupture basins are also available.
TANK VENTING
Each tank (and double wall containment area, if applicable) has a 2” Atmospheric Vent.
If the tank is U/L Listed, an Emergency Vent is added. The size of the U/L Emergency Vent depends upon the
wetted surface area of the tank and is shown below. If the tank is U/L Listed and double walled, the same size
Emergency Vent is also added to the double wall containment area.
- 2” - 10—50 Gallons, and
- 3” - 60—100 Gallons
